KUALA LUMPUR: Three Turkish men, arrested for posing a possible threat to national security, were deported to Ankara last night.
Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the trio - Turgay Karaman, 43; Ihsan Aslan, 39; and Ismet Ozcelik, 58 - were listed as wanted men by the Turkish authorities for their involvement with the group Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (Feto).
Khalid, in a statement, said police, in cooperation with the Immigration Department, had been involved in the operation to deport the trio to their home country.
Khalid, via his Twitter handle @kbab51, said: "@PDRMsia confirms that Turkish nationals; Turgay Karaman, Ihsan Aslan, and Ismet Ozcelik were deported to Ankara last night."
He said the trio were arrested early this month under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.
Turgay was the principal of an international school in Ipoh, Perak while Ismet and Ihsan are an academic and businessman, respectively.
On May 2, Turgay and Ismet were initially believed to have been abducted. Police later confirmed that the men had in fact been arrested.
