Former Labuan PWD director charged by MACC

KOTA KINABALU: A former Public Works director in Labuan was charged at the Special Corruption Court here with accepting vacation packages and cash worth about RM8,000 here two years ago.

Ismail Che Ros, 59, was accused of receiving room and golf packages valued at RM2,880.90 from a project manager, Teoh Hon Chun, at a five-star hotel here between Aug 5 and 7.

On Aug 6 at the same place, he was also accused of accepting RM5,000 cash from the same person. Both supposedly knew each other because of a construction project in Kampung Gersik in Labuan.

The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code for accepting the vacation packages from a person concerned with the project.

Judge Abu Bakar Manat fixed July 17 for case to be mentioned and documents to be submitted.

"After considering mitigating factors from both side, the court set RM10,000 bail, a surety and accused to surrender passport and report once a month to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)."

Ismail, who is represented by counsel Zahir Shah, lives in Kuala Lumpur and attached to Public Works department in Melaka.

Prosecuting officer Rozanna Abd Hadi represented the MACC.
