KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two individuals including a “datuk” who is also a managing director with a housing developer for allegedly falsifying the sales and purchase agreements (SPA) for condominium units in Penang.
Another person arrested was the company’s sales and marketing head, a 39-year-old woman.
The 47-year-old datuk was arrested at 6pm at the commission’s office Penang while the woman was arrested around 6.50pm.
Both suspects were said to have falsified SPAs involving several condominium units in Batu Ferringhi, Penang.
They were said to have used more than 20 nominees to purchase the Bumiputera units.
Initial investigation also revealed that both suspects had hired another person who acted as an “agent” to search for identification cards belonging to Bumiputera.
“The agent will get no less than RM3,000 for each identification card,” the source said.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki when contacted confirmed the arrests, adding that the commission is in the midst of identifying more suspects who might be involved in the activities.
