Domestic Trade enforcement staff fined RM1,200 for bribery

ALOR STAR: A Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry enforcement staff pleaded guilty at a Sessions Court here to accepting bribe from an illegal fuel storage operator in 2014.

Muhammad Mat Sa’ad, 36, made the plea on the first hearing day of his case this morning.

He had on March 29, claimed trial to the offence committed by him at an unnumbered fuel storage facility at Kampung Remia Manis in the Padang Terap district.

He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal which carries a maximum of two years’ jail sentence or fine or both.

Muhammad pleaded guilty with obtaining RM400 in cash from the storage owner, aged, 50, at about 2pm on Oct 4, 2014.

Judge Azman Abu Hassan sentenced him to RM1,200 fine, in default six months’ jail for the offence. He paid the fine.

Muhammad was represented by counsel Prem Singh while the case was prosecuted by MACC prosecuting officer Syahrul Khuzaini Amiruddin.
