Woman killed in crash with getaway car used by robber

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was killed when a car, driven by a suspected robber, crashed into her vehicle at KM9.9 of the SILK Highway today.

The incident unfolded when two men allegedly broke into a house in Taman Cheras Perdana, Cheras and fled with a Toyota Estima at about 4.40am.

It is still unknown if the other robber boarded the Estima or fled in another vehicle.

The incident was reported and as police were tracking down the stolen vehicle, they received a report of a fatal accident that took place along the SILK Highway involving the stolen vehicle.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said initial investigations revealed the man was speeding and driving recklessly before losing control of the car.

“The man eventually rear-ended a Proton Saga FL driven by a 39-year-old woman on the left lane.

“The impact had caused the vehicles to swerve to the road divider before crashing into the drain. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.

Dzaffir said the deceased was taken to Kajang Hospital for post-mortem. The cause of her death was head injury due to road traffic crash.

The Estima was left at the scene and the robber had fled.

Dzaffir said he had deployed his men to conduct checks at hospitals and clinics nearby to see if the man had seek treatment.

Details of the accident remains sketchy and police are urging witnesses to come forward to facilitate investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
