Cop accused of sexually assaulting Form Two boy remanded for one week

KUCHING: A police lance corporal, who was alleged to have sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy on Monday, has been remanded for a week to assist investigation.

Sarawak Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the magistrate's court granted a seven-day remand on the policeman, age 33, beginning today.

"He joined the force about 10 years ago and is currently attached with the state police headquarters," he said.

Yesterday, police nabbed the suspect at his house at Jalan Pinang Jawa here after a police report was lodged by the Form Two student.

The suspect, who is also a family friend, had offered to send the victim to his sister's shop in Batu Kawa about 1pm on Monday.

However, he had instead, taken the victim to a secluded spot nearby and sexually assaulted the boy inside his car.

Dev said the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries more than 20 years' imprisonment and a fine if found guilty.
