KLANG: A driver involved in a hit-and-run with a motorcyclist on Tuesday has been arrested after the incident went viral on social media.
The driver of a Toyota Camry allegedly crashed into the motorcyclist while turning onto Persiaran Raja Muda Musa here from Lebuh Turi junction.
The suspect failed to stop after hitting the motorcyclist and sped away in the 1.45pm incident.
The accident, captured on the dashcam of another vehicle, went viral after being shared on social media.
South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said the motorcyclist lodged a report at the South Klang traffic police station after seeking medical treatment at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital yesterday.
"She suffered a fractured left leg and multiple injuries across her body," he said in a statement today.
Cha said police identified the suspect's vehicle and its owner using close-circuit television camera footage from nearby business premises along the escape route.
"Preliminary checks revealed the suspect has 10 prior criminal offences and 24 outstanding traffic warrants, 15 of which fall under the jurisdiction of South Klang police.
"The Toyota Camry involved in the incident has also been seized for further investigation."
He said the case was being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
"Investigators will also consider criminal intent if new evidence emerges."
