KUCHING: A man, arrested for suspected involvement in a robbery case here, has escaped police custody this afternoon.
Zulkipli Morni, 34, managed to slipped out of his handcuffs and ran out of the Kuching district police headquarters in Jalan Simpang Tiga at 1.30pm.
Kuching district deputy police chief Superintendent Abang Junaidi Abang Anuar said at the time of the incident, Zulkipli and two other detainees were placed in a temporary detention room before being sent to their assigned lock-up.
“They had just returned from the Kuching Court Complex in Petra Jaya and were placed there awaiting transfer to their assigned lock-up.
“Zulkipli, however, managed to open his handcuffs, went out of the room and fled the scene,” Abang Junaidi said when contacted.
Policemen, who saw Zulkipli running out of the room, gave chase but the suspect had gotten into a waiting white Proton Iswara outside the police headquaters.
“We are conducting road blocks to locate the detainee from Bandar Baru Semariang.
“We also believed that the car he escaped in was using a fake registration number,” he said.
Zulkipli was last seen in a maroon-coloured T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
Abang Junaidi added that investigation was being conducted to find out if there was element of negligence among his men that led to the escape.
