JOHOR BARU: The two sisters aged 8 and 10, who were allegedly pushed into prostitution by their mother have been discharged from the hospital.
They were then immediately put under the custody of the state Welfare Department.
A source from the department said the sisters had undergone medical checks at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital since they were rescued on Oct 25 police, when police raided their house.
They had been staying with their 39-year-old mother.
"The two sisters are now under the care of the Welfare Department. They will be placed at a children's home.
"They are still traumatised by the incident ... they were straight-foward when describing what they went through.
“This is due to their age ... they may or may not fully understand what had happened," said the source.
He said the department would be sending counselors to meet with the two sisters soon.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said yesterday that police arrested the girls' 39-year-old single mother during the raid, to save the two children.
The raid was mounted following tip-offs from the public.
Police believed the woman allegedly exploited her two daughters to have sex with at least two Bangladeshi men.
The unemployed woman, had allegedly been taking her daughters to a budget hotel in Larkin Perdana, here every Friday in the past month.
Police said she would then leave them there with two Bangladeshi men in their 30s, while she would stay in another room at the same hotel, with a third Bangladeshi man, believed to be her lover.
Police said the woman received RM50, every time she prostituted her two children.
Medical examinations on the two girls, confirmed that they had old and new tears on their private parts.
The case is investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, and Section 372 of the Code for exploiting any person for prostitution.
