KUALA LUMPUR: Police fired gunshots towards a car that rammed into a police car and nearly injured its personnel on Jalan Pulasan 17, Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, Johor.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at 12.20pm yesterday when officers from the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division flagged to stop a motorcycle ridden by a local man for inspection.
During the inspection, he said, a car was driven recklessly towards the officers and collided with the police vehicle.
"This situation forced the police officers to fire shots at the car in self-defense.
"Following the incident, three local men aged between 24 and 45 were detained to assist with the investigation.
"Record checks found that the first suspect has two prior criminal offenses and three drug offenses, while the second suspect has one prior criminal offense and two drug offenses. The third suspect has two prior drug offenses.
"Urine tests conducted showed that all detained suspects tested positive for methamphetamine," he said in a statement.
Mohd Sohaimi said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, which, upon conviction, carries a sentence of up to two years' jail or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
"The case is also being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for using or introducing dangerous drugs into the body, which, upon conviction, carries a sentence of up to two years imprisonment or a fine not exceeding RM5,000.
"Investigations are also being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which, upon conviction, carries a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine. If the act causes injury to any individual, the offender faces imprisonment of up to 20 years," he said.
He said a remand application for all three suspects under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code would be made today.
He said the police are also tracking another suspect who is still at large, a local man known as Mohd Syakirin Mohd Samsudin, aged 25.
