SHAH ALAM: A student who was allegedly beaten up during his birthday celebration at a secondary school here, as shown in a video that went viral has lodged a police report on the incident.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib said the student lodged the report at Section 9 Police Station here at 8.53pm last night.
“The police are investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.
He said initial investigations revealed that the incident took place in February.
It is learned that the school has identified all the students involved and a thorough investigation would be conducted.
The 29-second video that had gone viral since yesterday showed eight male students including one who is believed to be a prefect assaulting their classmate with a broom while singing Happy Birthday.
It is understood that the assault is traditionally practised by some students in the school to celebrate fellow students’ birthday. -- BERNAMA
