KUALA LUMPUR: In barely 24 seconds, two armed men robbed a bank in Jalan Genting Klang, Setapak, and escaped with RM17,500, this afternoon.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said one man was waiting outside the bank on a motorcycle while the other ran into the premises.
“There were seven bank workers, two security guards and two customers inside when the 3.56pm incident took place.
“One of the men, armed with a weapon resembling a pistol, shouted ‘Don’t move!’ to those in the bank before he made his way to the one of counters and grabbed the money inside the drawer.
“He then fled with his accomplice who was waiting outside the bank towards the city. It all happened in 24 seconds. The duo was wearing helmets and masks,” he said when met at the scene today.
No one was injured in the robbery.
Roy said police called in the security guards – a Nepali and a Malaysian – to facilitate investigation.
“During the incident, the unarmed Nepali guard was at the front entrance while the Malaysian guard armed with pump gun was at the back.
“We will record their statement to assist in our investigation into the case,” he said, adding that police would also be scrutinising the closed-circuit television footage retrieved from the bank.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang-robbery.
