It's murder: Police reclassify death of Cradle Fund CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have reclassified the death of former Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan as murder.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmad said, based on the Fire and Rescue Department report on investigations into the blaze which killed the 47-year-old, police have opened investigations paper under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“The case of the death of the Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd CEO on June 14 has been reclassified as murder, based on the Fire and Rescue Department’s report on investigations into the incident as well as the post-mortem examination done on the victim,” he said in a statement.

Nazrin was killed when his room at his home in Mutiara Homes, Petaling Jaya, caught fire about 12.20pm on June 14.

Initial reports said the fire may have been caused by his mobile phone, which had been charging by his bedside, exploded.

Nazrin was said to have been trapped in the room on the top floor of his two-storey terrace house.

A post-mortem examination was said to have shown that he had suffered multiple complications as a result of the explosion.
