KANGAR: The Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) director was injured on his left cheek after being slashed by a samurai sword during a robbery at his house in Kampung Guru here.
The Kangar District police chief Supt Wari Kiew said in the 11pm incident last night, the victim, Dr Hazman Hassan, 41, just got home from a ceramah (talk) and didn’t realise his home was broken into.
“The victim then went upstairs and encountered the robber in his bedroom. They scuffled before the suspect, believed to be a local, swung his samurai sword, slashing Dr Hazman’s left cheek,” he said in a press conference at the Kangar District Police Headquarters today.
Initial investigation showed that the suspect broke into the house through the balcony.
“He used a ladder and broke the balcony’s door which was not locked properly. We managed to lift fingerprints from the scene and we’re in the midst of identifying the suspect,” said Wari.
He added that the suspect escaped with the victim’s mobile phone and wallet.
“The case is being investigated under Section 326 and 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery,” he said.
