SEBERANG JAYA: A man believed to have been suffering severe depression jumped to his death from his 27th-floor unit at the Casa Prima apartment building here today.
It is learnt that parts of the 38-year-old man’s body disintegrated on impact with a manhole cover on a road at the rear of the building in the 1.50pm incident.
The event was noticed by a Casa Prima resident who said she heard a loud noise akin to an explosion emanating from where the man’s body landed.
The man’s remains were conveyed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) for a post-mortem, but an initial investigation revealed no element of foul play in the incident.
Central Seberang Prai District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the case has been classified as “sudden death”.
He added that a police check of the man’s home found that everything was in order.
The man – an employee of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) – was said to be chronically depressed, Nir Ros Azhan added.
