KOTA KINABALU: Six men were charged in the Sessions Court here today with smuggling in 22 Filipino migrants into the country.
However, no plea was recorded from all the six accused – Anuar Madjiril Hadji, 34, Amin Ali, 28, Omar Sapari, 53, Jashih Mohd Ali, 54, Badri Jalal , 62, and Muksin Munib (holder of IMM13) – after the charges were read out to them before judge Azreena Aziz.
All of them were charged with committing the offence at several locations at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport between February 2017 and Oct 24 this year.
They were charged under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Acts 2007, which provides an imprisonment for up to 15 years, or fine, or both, if found guilty.
The court set Dec 7 for mention.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris, while all the six accused were unrepresented. -- Bernama
