KUALA LUMPUR: The corruption trial of Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was postponed today after he called in sick due to a knee injury he sustained as a result of a nasty fall he had in the courtroom.
Last Friday, after testifying under oath in his defence, the former federal territories minister fell on the floor as soon as he left the witness stand.
Counsel Datuk Tan Hock Chuan said his client had to undergo a CT scan examination after the fall and results show that there was no abnormality.
He told the court that his client was on medical leave for six days from Jan 17 due to the incident which left the latter with a tissue injury to the right knee.
“My client is on medical leave as a result of the last incident in court. He also went to CT scan.
“In the circumstances, we apologise, we ask for today’s proceedings to be vacated,” he said.
Trial dates were then tentatively fixed on Feb 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 and March 4 and 5 by High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan.
Tengku Adnan, 69, had on last Friday took the stand to testify on the first day of his defence trial.
On Oct 14, he was ordered to enter his defence on a charge of accepting a RM2 million bribe from businessman Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong via a cheque belonging to property developer Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd which was deposited into a bank account belonging to Tadmansori Holdings, a company owned by his family.
He faces up to two years jail, or fined or both, if found guilty under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
