KUALA LUMPUR: A courier company employee was killed and his colleague seriously injured after a car driven by a man under the influence of alcohol crashed into their machine at KM 34.2 of the Federal Highway early this morning.
In the 6am incident, the 42-year-old victim who was a pillion rider on the motorcycle died on the spot. The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and has been admitted at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for treatment.
It is understood the two co-workers were also housemates and the victim who was killed had only been working for the past three days at a courier company in Petaling Jaya.
When the incident took place, the duo had just finished their shift and were headed back to their dwelling in the federal capital.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said preliminary investigation found the driver of the car lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the victim's machine which was on the motorcycle lane.
"The pillion, a male aged 42-years-old died on the spot, whereas the 30-year-old rider was rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
"The car driver, a local, is a 22-year-old undergraduate at a local institute of higher learning. He did not sustain any injuries," Nik Ezanee said in statement.
He said investigations found that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and the outcome of an alcohol content test (on the driver) found alcohol levels in his body to be high.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987, for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
