Drugs by drone: 2 more arrested

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two more suspects involved in the smuggling of drugs from Johor Baru to Singapore using a drone.

Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspects, a Singraporean man and a local woman, were arrested following the arrest of the main suspect known as 'Boy Setan' on Tuesday.

"The male suspect, 41, was arrested at a condominium in the city while the female suspect, 23, was arrested with 'Boy Setan' in a condominium in Taman Mount Austin here. We believe she is his girlfriend," said Ayob Khan.

He said both the male suspects tested positive for methamphetamine use and were wanted by the Singaporean authorities in connection to criminal and drug cases while the female suspect tested negative and has no record of previous offences.

"We believe that both male suspects are members of a gang known as Gang Salakau or Gang 369 in Singapore. Besides the arrests, we also seized 37 Ecstacy pills, 13.6g of syabu and 2.4g of heroin worth RM2,590," said Ayob Khan.

Last week, Singapore police and the Central Narcotics Bureau arrested four suspects for smuggling drugs between Johor Baru and Singapore using drone.

Following the arrest, Johor police announced that they are looking for a suspect known as 'Boy Setan', a 40-year-old Singaporean man, who is believed to be involved in the activity.

Ayob Khan said the suspects have been remanded until July 7 and the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Both male suspects are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstating.
