JOHOR BARU: The body of a man who was reported missing on Aug 31 has been found following the arrest of two suspects.
State police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the body of Su Kim Chiang, a 57-year-old retired special branch officer, was found buried in an oil palm plantation in Kahang, Kluang on Saturday.
"The man went missing on Aug 31 and a police report was lodged by the man's family on Sept 1. Two suspects, aged 37 and 41, were arrested on Oct 16.
"Later the next day, a team comprising of police personnel from the state Criminal Investigation Department and pathology experts from Sultanah Aminah Hospital found the body in the plantation.
"There was no identification document found on the body. Initial investigations revealed the victim was murdered at another location," he told reporters today.
Ayob said, on Oct 18, a motorcycle was found dumped in a river about 2km from the plantation.
"The discovery of the body and the motorcycle is believed to be related to the case (of Su's disappearance). The man's next-of-kin was called to identify the body but due to its decomposing condition, they could not do so.
"However, they confirmed the clothes on the body was the same as the ones worn by Su when he went missing, so we are waiting for the result of the DNA test."
Ayob said a post-mortem examination determined that cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
"Investigations also revealed that money could be the motive for the murder, as the victim had given a loan to the first suspect, who was a close friend of the victim," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
On another case, Ayob said police seized drugs worth about RM1.29 million during two raids in Muar last week.
"In the first raid on Oct 16, police seized 20.795kg of syabu and 14,000 ecstasy pills at a beach in Parit Besar Laut in Muar. In the second raid on Oct 17, police seized 1.064kg of syabu in an oil palm plantation in Muar.
"The raids were carried out following earlier raids in Muar on Oct 13 and 14 during which we arrested six members of a drug trafficking syndicate and seized drugs worth RM924,190."
Ayob said the drugs were intended to be smuggled to Bengkalis in Indonesia.
"The case is being investigated (for trafficking) under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952."
