KUANTAN: Some police officers are betting while playing golf, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has revealed.
Ayob said this when speaking about the importance of appointing or promoting the right people for a job.
He said bosses should appoint or promote those who are trustworthy instead of "apple polishers".
Ayob said there were those who would play golf with their bosses on a daily basis to secure promotions.
"Playing golf on Saturday or Sunday is acceptable but playing on weekdays and betting too," he said in a recent talk in conjunction with the Kuantan City Council's Integrity Day celebration.
"People have told me, 'Your officers are not bad, Datuk, betting with a lot of cash while playing golf'.
"If I come across (them), they're in trouble."
Separately, Ayob said 6,646 policemen including senior officers have faced disciplinary action for various offences from 2020 until September this year.
These include dismissals, demotions, and pay cuts among others for various offences including committing crime and corruption as well drug and syariah offences.
