KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating four Twitter and Facebook account owners for allegedly insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on social media.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said one individual has been detained while efforts to track down the remaining suspects were ongoing.
He said one of the individuals probed by its Classified Criminal Investigations Department (USJT) was Facebook account owner Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew.
"On Oct 21, an investigation kickstarted against the Facebook account owner who had uploaded a statement which read 'Now in Bangkok, they are saying no to the King'.
"We are now tracking down the suspect to have his statement recorded, along with other witnesses, as well as obtain the relevant documents," said Huzir in a statement today.
Huzir said they were also investigating a Twitter account owner with the handle 'Uncle Ireeve' for uploading statements that allegedly insulted the Agong.
Huzir said his men were also investigating a Twitter statement by one Liew Lip Nan for allegedly disputing a video uploaded by the National Security Council on 'Seven Wills of the Malay Rulers'.
"Last night, a team from USJT arrested a man, 52, in Cheras and seized the equipment used to upload the statement. We will apply for a remand order against the man."
Huzir said another probe was underway against Facebook account owner Ho Ruey Terng who had allegedly made insulting statements against the Agong.
"Investigations are under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998."
He urged the social media account owners to surrender themselves at the USJT.
"We also call on Malaysians to always uphold the first line of the Rukun Negara's principles which is Loyalty to the King and Country, to avert tendencies of making seditious remarks."
