TAIPING: Four youths aged between 18 and 22 were fined by police for selling pickled mangoes and guava at traffic light junctions here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Osman Mamat said they were fined between RM150 and RM2,000 for committing the offence at two traffic light junctions here at about 6pm yesterday.
"We have warned and advised them not to operate such activity since October last year as it is an offence under Rule 10A(1) LN 166/59 of the Road Traffic Rules.
"We warned them many times, but it fell on deaf ears. The activities have been ongoing since early last year. They sell the food by going from car to car and knocking on windows," he said.
Omar said those who are found guilty of selling and buying goods at the traffic light junctions could face a fine of up to RM2,000.
He added that the activity of selling and buying at such areas was an offence as it could disrupt traffic flow as well as endanger all parties including other road users.
"The police will carry out operations from time to time to ensure street pedlars abide by road regulations," he added.
