KUALA LUMPUR: A hotel bartender pleaded guilty at the Ampang magistrate's court today to a charge of crashing into four motorists, including two traffic policemen, in March.
Mohamad Syazwan Abdul Halim, 29, was charged with driving without appropriate due care and attention on Sergeant Syafiqah Arinah Mohamed Anwar and Corporal Mohd Hasrul Aswadi Mohd Shukri, aged 30 and 34.
The others were Wan Ariff Danial Wan Ahmad Sofian from Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and one Nurul Syahiera Zaiful Azar, both aged 31.
The offence was committed at 9am at a traffic light junction on Jalan Pandan Indah Utama on March 21.
The charge under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM10,000 and jail up to 12 months upon conviction.
The court, however, did not deliver any sentencing on Mohamad Syazwan pending medical reports on the four victims.
Deputy public prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani urged the court to set bail at RM7,000 and for a mention date to be fixed.
In mitigation, lawyer Wan Nur Afifah Che Bakar said her client was married and his wife is unemployed.
"He earns RM2,800 monthly and his wife, who will post bail, can afford to pay RM3,000 to RM4,000.
"We ask for a minimum bail sum as the accused has made his guilty plea," she said.
Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top set bail at RM3,800 with one surety and fixed Oct 14 for mention.
