IPOH: The 30-year-old husband of a famous YouTuber escaped a prison sentence when the Sessions Court here imposed a three-year good behaviour bond for possession of an offensive weapon in July last year.
Judge Norashima Khalid handed down the sentence to M Sugu after he pleaded guilty to the offence today, Bernama reported.
She also set an RM8,000 condition for the good behaviour bond in one surety; and RM3,000 in costs as suggested by deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi.
Norashima meted out the sentence after hearing mitigation from the accused and his representation letter that he submitted last year.
Counsel Syahrul Nizam Mohd Rabi, who represented Sugu, applied for the good behaviour bond under Section 294 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He said the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding, and his client was never involved in gangsterism or any criminal activity.
He also needs to support his two children.
"He was nominated as Ikon Anak Bandaraya Ipoh.
"My client is also remorseful for what he did and promised not to repeat it," he said.
On July 24, Sugu is alleged to have had a 26-inch sickle in his possession at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB)'s Palliative Ward parking space at about 6pm.
He was charged under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides for a minimum jail sentence of five years, maximum of 10 years, if found guilty.
