Forged interstate travel forms land Kuantan-bound students in trouble

BENTONG: Policemen manning a Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) roadblock at the Bentong toll plaza sensed something amiss when they inspected inter-state travel forms belonging to two women.

The required details section was left blank, the police station's stamp and serial number were missing, and the police station chief's signature at the bottom of the page raised suspicion.

Further checks during the 6.45pm incident on Monday, led police to discover an empty inter-state travel form with police approval kept in one of the suspect's handphone, and to make matters worse, one of them tested positive for cannabis.

District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the college students, both 22-years-old, put on a brave front when they informed policemen at the road block that they were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan.

"Their travel permit appeared fake. The police station chief's signature, and stamp (who approved the permit) appeared to have been scanned and some required information was not included.

"Policemen then recovered an empty interstate travel form which was already approved kept in one of the suspect's handphone and we believe the copy is also fake," he said.

Zaiham said the suspects have been detained for investigations under Section 468 for committing forgery for the purpose of cheating while the accused, who tested positive for drug use, is investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He reminded the public not to commit fraud using the police forms to secure inter-state travel permission as those caught will be punished.
