KOTA KINABALU: Two Sabah government statutory staff members were detained yesterday for allegedly receiving RM2,700 bribe each.
Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Agency (MACC) director S. Karunanithy who confirmed the arrest said the duo were being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
It is learnt the money was demanded by the employees who carry out agricultural work in the statutory body as a return favour for obtaining work contract.
One of the suspects, in his 40s, was detained during an operation in Tuaran at 3.15pm.
His arrest led graftbusters to apprehend the second suspect, in his 30s, at the MACC office here at 8pm.
The MACC enforcement team also seized RM3,500 cash from the duo. The money was believed to have been obtained dishonestly.
Karunanithy said the two individuals were detained for 24 hours to facilitate investigation before being released on MACC bail.
