KUALA LUMPUR: The national crime index is under control and has been on a downtrend during the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) periods.
Federal police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said, the downtrend was, among others, the result of regular police operations to detect criminal activities on the ground.
"Same goes to the latest MCO (that started nationwide yesterday), the crime trend is under control and is declining due to the presence of police monitoring teams.
"To some extent, this has reduced the percentage of criminal activities and the CID teams are also actively taking measures to prevent such incidents.
"Throughout the MCO, police will continue with their operations, investigations and prosecutions," he told reporters after visiting a roadblock at the Jalan Duta toll plaza, here, today.
Present was City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya.
Zulfefly said police had issued six compounds to road users for attempting to cross state lines without a valid permission letter at two roadblocks – Sungai Besi and Jalan Duta toll plazas – between May 8 and 12.
"Most of them who tried to cross state lines without a letter gave the excuse that they wanted to enter the capital city for Raya shopping.
"Aside from that, the traffic today is smooth, with no congestions. This shows that the rakyat are following the MCO standard operating procedures, and only leave the house for important matters or work," he said.
