Bukit Aman take over Kedah MB's case of alleged car showroom visit

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The case of Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's alleged violation of the standard operating procedure (SOP) by visiting a vehicle showroom in Juru here last Saturday, has been referred to Bukit Aman.

State police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abdul Manan said on Penang police's part, they had completed investigation into the case.

"We have referred the completed investigation paper (IP) to Bukit Aman. Bukit Aman will study it and we will wait for their advice and opinion. After that, the IP will be referred to the prosecution's office for the next course of action," he told the New Straits Times.

It is understood that all cases involving government servants are referred to Bukit Aman.

On Monday, police recorded Muhammad Sanusi's statement.

Aside from Muhammad Sanusi's statement, police also recorded statements from the showroom owner, a salesman, the woman who took the video of the incident and her husband.

The IP was opened under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Regulation 17(1) of the Disease Prevention Measure and Control Act 2021.

Photos and videos of a salesman and several individuals, including a man believed to be Muhammad Sanusi, went viral on Saturday after the man had allegedly test-driven a car at the centre here.

The country is currently being placed under a two-week total lockdown where only limited essential sectors are allowed to operate and no interstate and interdistrict travels were allowed during the period, among other measures.

The post on Facebook had received heavy criticism from various parties who questioned how the Menteri Besar could have gone for a test drive when vehicle sales centres should have been closed as they are not part of the essential services allowed to operate during the period.

Muhammad Sanusi had reiterated that no vehicle test drive had taken place and he was in Autocity Juru to buy food from a convenience store in the area.

He said he was prepared to be investigated and was willing to face legal consequences if his action was found to have flouted the SOP.
