JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) yesterday seized a container carrying skimmed milk powder imported from the United States at the Pasir Gudang Port.
Johor Maqis director Hizzuan Hasim said the department conducted a check on the container at about noon on Monday.
"Following the check, we found the establishment number on the health certificate that was declared to be different than the one on the label of the packaging.
"We confiscated 997 bags of skimmed milk powder, weighing about 24,925 kilogrammes and valued at RM304,583.50, for further action," said Hizzuan in a statement.
He said any attempts to import agricultural products by submitting permits, licenses, declarations or other documents that are false, inaccurate or confusing to Maqis is an offence under Section 13 of the Maqis Act 2011.
"Maqis is committed to enforce the law at all entry points in the country so the disease control of animals, fish and plants as well as food safety standards are preserved and meet all the conditions and regulations," said Hizzuan.
