KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested the chief executive officer (CEO) of a company linked to the uCustoms system project, which was recently highlighted in the Auditor-General's Report.
MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Azam Baki when contacted by Berita Harian confirmed the 56 -year-old man was arrested last night after appearing at the MACC headquarters to assist investigations.
The Customs Department is among those who will be called by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to explain the failure to complete the uCustoms system worth RM397.43 million.
PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh said so far, the government had paid a total RM272.99 million for the project which started in October 2013 and was extended up to five times.
The Auditor-General's Report 2019 Series 2 which was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat recently revealed that the UCustoms system to replace the Customs Information System failed to be completed within 86 months after being given five extensions of time (EOT).
According to the audit report, a total RM272.99 million had been paid to the suppliers and Project Management Office, while only one Liquidated Ascertained Damage (LAD) amounting to RM55,660 was imposed.
