JELEBU: Seven inmates who were under remand escaped from the Jelebu Prison at 3pm today.
Jelebu District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Maslan Udin said police, assisted by the Tracker Dog Unit from the Negri Sembilan Contingent Police Headquarters and the Jelebu Prison, launched an operation to hunt down the escaped prisoners.
He said as of 7pm, one prisoner, Sohaimi Khalid, 50, was recaptured at an oil palm plantation in Kongkoi, about two kilometres from the Prison.
Police, he said are on the hunt for the other six prisoners - Mazlan Samah, 39, Mohamad Aminuddin Khan Mohd Yusof, 28, Shazuan Md Sharif, 32, Mohd Zairizan Zainal, 42, Muhammad Syafiq Rohmat, 32, and a foreigner, Zainuddin.
"The case is being investigated under Section 223 and Section 224 of the Penal Code for fleeing detention as well as resisting lawful arrest.
"Police welcome any information from the public to help the authorities track down all the prisoners," he said in a statement today.
He said information can be channelled to any nearby police station or the public can contact the Jelebu District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 06-6136222 or the Jelebu IPD operations room at 06-6137999.
