KAJANG: The Prisons Department will set up a special investigation board to determine how an inmate seeking treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital escaped on Wednesday.
In a statement, the department said it will not compromise on security lapses and would take firm action against anyone found to be negligent or failing to comply with the standard operating procedures.
"The Prisons Department has collaborated with police to form a search team to locate the escaped inmate. Efforts to track him down are currently being intensified and expanded to other areas," the statement read.
It also requested public cooperation and urged anyone with information about the individual to contact Sungai Buloh Prison at 03-61843333 or the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters at 03-61561222.
On Wednesday, it was reported that an inmate with eight prior criminal and drug-related records had escaped from the hospital at about 3pm.
Sungai Buloh District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said they were notified about the incident at 3.56pm.
