Escorting VIP's son: Police complete probe against traffic cops

GEORGE TOWN: Police have completed investigations on two traffic policemen, who were captured on video acting as outriders for the son of a VIP, on May 7.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police had recorded a statement from the son of the VIP, in his mid-20s, on May 9.

"We have completed our probe into the matter.

"The investigation paper has been sent to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action," he said today.

It was reported that a 20-second video footage of the incident had gone viral after it was uploaded on social media on May 7.

The footage showed a car, said to be driven by the son of a member of parliament, being escorted by two traffic cops using police motorcycles along Jalan Bukit Gambir.

The footage had since earned the wrath of netizens, who had questioned why police resources were being used for a member of the public.

Prior to this, Mohd Shuhaily had said that the two traffic policemen had been transferred to the administrative department until the investigation against them was completed.

He had said investigations showed that the duo had acted on their own accord without any instructions from the higher-ups.

Following the incident, a disciplinary investigation paper was opened against the two traffic policemen.
