KOTA BARU: A 28-year-old footballer who was detained for allegedly raping a girl in Kampung Kijang here on Sunday, was released on bail today.
Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the suspect was released on police bail about 2.30pm.
"The one day extension remand order on the suspect ended today and he was released on police bail pending investigations," he said.
Zaki said police are expected to hand over the investigation papers on the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon.
Police yesterday obtained another day remand order against the suspect to assist investigations. The remand ended today.
The suspect was detained soon after the 18-year-old victim lodged a report at the Kota Baru police station about 2pm on Sunday.
In the report, the victim claimed the incident happened about noon when she was throwing rubbish near her home.
The suspect suddenly dragged her into the house and raped her. No one was in the house at the time of the incident.
The victim also claimed she had been 'sexually abused' by the suspect, who was a regular customer at her food stall, by sending her lewd pictures via WhatsApp since she was 17.
The suspect was nabbed at his home about 10pm the same day.
