'Strip' act woman nabbed, remanded three days [updated]

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained a woman for allegedly making fun of her identity as a Malay-Muslim.

This was after she took off her baju kurung at a comedy club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here on Friday.

Bukit Aman police Secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin in a brief statement said the woman was detained to facilitate investigations after she was accused of insulting Islam.

"Police obtained a three-day remand order on the suspect from today until July 12," she said.

Noorsiah said the suspect will be detained at the Brickfields district police until the remand ends.

"Investigations are still ongoing," she said.

In the incident at the local comedy club in TTDI, a woman in 'tudung' went on stage to perform stand up comedy.

During her performance she allegedly made degrading religious remarks and took of her baju kurung. She was wearing a spaghetti strap dress underneath the traditional attire.
