Police arrest man caught on video dumping rubbish into river

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a man who was caught on video dumping rubbish into a river in Pontian.

Pontian police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the man was arrested at about 7 pm on Thursday.

"A police report was lodged by the Pontian police station chief on Thursday afternoon after he came across a video on the Facebook page of Community Roda Johor showing a man dumping several items believed to be rubbish from a lorry into a river

"The incident is believed to have happened on a bridge in Sungai Wak Rabin Batu 33 here," said Mohammad Shofee in a statement.

He said later that evening, the police managed to locate the 52-year old man and the lorry that was then taken to the Pontian district police headquarters.

"A urine test was conducted on the suspect which turned out to be negative.

"Subsequently, the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division issued a compound under Rule 52 LN 166/59 and for driving without a Goods Driving License," said Mohammad Shofee.

He said the lorry will also be taken to Puspakom for further inspection.

"The suspect was also handed over to the district Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) for further action."

In the 36 second video, a man was seen stopping a lorry on a bridge before carrying rubbish from the vehicle and dumping it into the river.
