Case details held back due to unconfirmed sensitive elements [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Unconfirmed sensitive elements related to the Hamas-linked Palestinian abduction were among reasons police did not reveal details to the public.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said safety issues were also the reason why certain details were held back.

He said after the news broke out, certain names of witnesses were also revealed to the public.

"I was told by my officers that some of the witnesses were revealed, and this affects our investigations.

"I have already issued two press releases regarding the matter, one via written (statement) and the other verbally.

"If there were things we could have revealed, we would have done so.

"These are matters of safety and confidentiality as it involves sensitive elements," he told a press conference after officiating the Safety Point Rapid KL Pilot Project at Kampung Batu Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station here today.

When asked if it is true that Mossad was involved in the Palestinian abduction, he said police are unable to confirm the matter at the moment.

He said their investigation was now focused on whether agencies abroad are involved in the case.

"If we mention names, it will interfere with our probe".

When asked if there will be further arrests, he said it remains status quo.

"We are wrapping up our investigation.

"Some were charged in court and others were released," he said.

On the police contacting NST group editor, Farrah Naz Karim following the exposé on Mossad operations, Azmi said it was a normal procedure.

He said Farrah was summoned to the Dang Wangi police headquarter today only to assist with police investigations.

"We are not investigating the editor, but only to assist our probe

"When speculations arise, it affects our investigations.

"We do not know how or from where they got the (Mossad) name," he said while adding that no police reports were lodged following NST's exposé.

On Monday, NST had exposed that a Mossad operation planned to abduct two high-value Palestinians believed to be linked to Hamas at Jalan Yap Kuan Seng last month.

During the Sept 28 incident, a group of locals including a woman had acted as Israeli operatives to abduct the two Palestinians who are based in Malaysia.

The operatives only managed to capture one of the Palestinians as the other escaped and immediately lodged a police report.

Quick action by the police led to the discovery of where the agents were and the victim was rescued.
