KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will look into allegations raised by PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli on the RM2 billion Sungai Langat 2 flood mitigation project in Selangor.
Chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said no reports had been lodged, including by Rafizi, on the allegation.
"For now I did not receive any report but all the matters mentioned will be under our attention, as all the details were given to the public.
"If the allegations are substantiated, we will initiate further investigation. For now we will wait and see and will also look into it.
"For instance, if what (caretaker) Environment and Water Minister (Datuk Seri) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said was true that there is no such project, then there is no need to open investigation," he said after an investiture in conjunction with Kelantan's Sultan Muhammad V's 53rd birthday celebration today.
Asked if MACC would record Rafizi's statement, Azam said no decision has been made.
"I cannot decide yet because as far as I know, a denial has been made and a demand letter has been sent to Rafizi.
"However, we welcome Rafizi or any party to supply us with the information and we are open to accept it as it is our duty. If there is a basis to the allegation, we will investigate," he added.
Rafizi had said a government source had informed him that the Water and Environment Ministry was awarding flood mitgation project worth RM2 billion through direct negotiations to a company with financial problems and owned by a person with links to Umno.
He also published online a purported government letter showing the approval.
