Police investigating video of Malaysian, Israeli flags flown together

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have opened an investigation paper regarding the spread of a viral video clip showing a group of individuals singing Negaraku with the Jalur Gemilang being hoisted together with the Israeli flag.

Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the investigation was carried out following a police report lodged at 11.20pm Tuesday.

He said the complainant had informed the police that he had seen a 47-second video clip related to the incident in a WhatsApp group.

"Investigations found that the incident happened in September when a group of locals visited the Sea of Galilee, which is located under Israel's jurisdiction.

"The visit was made through Ziarah Kembara, which was conducted by a local travel agency.

"(And) during the visit, Negaraku was played and the Malaysian flag was raised," he said in a statement today.

According to Ku Mashariman, an investigation paper was opened and the case was being investigated according to Section 8 of the National Anthem Act 1968 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.

In the meantime, Ku Mashariman said the public was advised not to issue any statements and spread any material related to the incident through any platform.

"This is to avoid any speculation and provocation that could affect the police investigation and threaten public order.

"The re-emergence of the video clip is believed to be linked to the current issue of Israel," he said.

BH's check on social media found that there were parties who explained that the incident took place during a tour on the Sea of Galilee, where the captain of the boat played the Negaraku song and raised the Malaysian flag.
