Two policemen who are members of Ayahanda Harimau Kumbang gang released under police bail

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two policemen who are members of the underworld gang Ayahanda Harimau Kumbang are expected to be charged at the court soon despite being released on police bail yesterday.

Terengganu police criminal investigation chief Assistant Commissioner Suffian Sulaiman said they were released following the end of their remand period.

He said the duo were likely to be charged pending further investigations into their involvement in the gang.

The two were among 14 police rank-and-file members as well as officers arrested last Friday, along with seven other individuals during the Op Seledang raid in Dungun and Kuala Terengganu.

"Further investigations, including on the involvement of the other 12 police members are ongoing," Suffian said when contacted today.

The Ayahanda Harimau Kumbang gang is said to be carrying out criminal activities including blackmail and employed violence when collecting debts or reposessing vehicles.

The gang is also said to be led by a trader who goes by the name Husin Kumbang, 39.

Harian Metro had recently reported on the series of their arrests during which a number of police members were also cuffed.

Also seized during the arrests were six swords, a dagger, a sting ray tail barb, eight cars, 28 mobile phones, membership forms, prayer mats and a shroud believed to had been used for a membership swearing-in ceremony.

Investigations were carried out under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 and Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

All of the arrested police members, aged between 20 and 48, were attached to the Terengganu police headquarters and Dungun district police headquarters.
