Driver in fatal Pasir Gudang crash released on police bail

PASIR GUDANG: The driver of the car who was involved in a crash that claimed the lives of a husband and wife at the traffic light junction of Jalan Besar/Jalan Mesjid here on Saturday, has been released on police bail.

Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 34-year-old man was initially arrested at the scene.

He added the suspect, who sustained head injuries, is still receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI).

"We are completing the investigation papers before referring the case to the state prosecution office for further action," he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, it was reported that Mohd Ridzwan Mohd Rudi, 37, and his wife, Linda Mohd A. Aziz, 35, were killed at the scene after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident with a car driven by the man, who is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The accident left the couple's five children — Nur Aleesha Aindah Abdullah, 17, Muhammad Ikmal Danish, 15, Nur Shahkira Mohd Ridzwan, 14, Nur Shahmira Mohd Ridzwan, 12, and Nur Aisyah Humairah Mohd Ridzwan, 3, orphaned.
