Businessman Adam Radlan claims trial over accepting RM500,000 bribe in relation to Jana Wibawa programme

KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman Adam Radlan has claimed trial to soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM500,000 in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

The two charges were read in the Sessions Court here this morning before judge Suzana Hussin.

He was accused to have solicited a bribe from the managing director of MIE Infrastructure and Energy Sdn Bhd, Mat Jusoh Mamat, as a kickback for the company to obtain a letter of agreement for a project under Jana Wibawa.

He was also accused of accepting a RM500,000 bribe from Mat Jusoh for the company to obtain a road construction project worth RM47.8 million.

The charges were framed under Section 16(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act and are punishable under Section 24(1) of the same act, which provides for up to 20 years' jail and a minimum fine of RM10,000.

Adam was later granted RM120,000 bail with two sureties and also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

He was also ordered to report himself to the MACC every month until the date of his trial.

The judge set March 23 for mention.

Earlier today, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed trial to accepting RM6.9 million in bribes from a businessman also in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

Wan Saiful was alleged to have accepted RM6.9 million through a CIMB bank account belonging to his company, WSA Advisory Group Sdn Bhd, from a Maybank account of Nepturis Sdn Bhd.

He is also alleged to have solicited an unspecified amount from another businessman, Lian Tan Chuan at the Royal Lake Club here in April last year to help the company secure the RM232 million Central Spine Road project from the federal government.

Wan Saiful and Adam Radlan were arrested by the MACC yesterday.
