Major accident on Plus highway causes traffic standstill

MELAKA: A major accident involving a car, lorry, and bus occurred at KM203.9 southbound on the North-South Expressway (Plus) between Simpang Ampat and Ayer Keroh, causing severe traffic disruptions in both directions.

Plus Malaysia's traffic updates on platform X (@plustrafik) reported the accident at 8.54pm.

"Motorists were advised to drive cautiously and expect disruptions.

"Further updates confirmed that all northbound lanes and the right lane of the southbound route were blocked," Plus Malaysia said in a post on Facebook.

It said traffic was reported to be congested southbound, while vehicles heading north experienced a complete standstill.

Traffic conditions were reported to have worsened, with northbound congestion extending up to 10km and slow-moving traffic for 6km southbound as of 10.45pm.

It said vehicles heading north were diverted to exit at the Ayer Keroh toll Plaza.

The traffic authorities also activated the 'Smartlane' on the southbound route, allowing light vehicles to use the emergency lane to ease congestion.

"The situation remained critical, with all northbound lanes and the right southbound lane still obstructed.

"Authorities are working to clear the accident scene and restore normal traffic flow," it said.
