Spirited Najib committed to fight remaining corruption charges [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's recent acquittal and discharge in power abuse involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) audit tampering case has lifted his spirits and his desire to fight the remaining corruption charges.

Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said the former prime minister was grateful to Allah for the decision and remained committed to clearing his name of other corruption charges involving the sovereign state fund.

"This is the beginning of the many good things that will come.

"Today's decision was beyond a mere acquittal and discharge as the trial judge said there was no element of corruption or gratification," he said.

Shafee said this in a press conference after the High Court acquitted and discharged Najib and former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy from the power abuse case involving the 1MDB audit report.

Shafee also reiterated that this case was a political-driven charge against his client.

"You cannot dilute the fact that this was a politically charged case.

"This is the first case out of those cases that we got a good result. I hope the prosecution will not appeal," he said.

Earlier, Najib gave a wide smile as he hugged his supporters after the proceedings ended.

His wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and daughter Nooryana Najwa who also attended the proceedings could not hide their emotions and hugged each one another in the public gallery.

Najib, 70, is now serving his 12-year jail sentence at the Kajang Prison after he was found guilty of all seven charges related to the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International funds.
