KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an investigation paper on allegations of corruption involving state oil firm Petronas and an international oil and gas company.
This came following the publication of a report on the matter by a portal recently.
In a statement today, MACC said Petronas was providing its full cooperation to the investigation involving a project worth RM399 million in Sarawak.
"The commission has found several weaknesses in practices, systems and work procedures related to this issue.
"In this regard, the commission has recommended several improvements to the existing standard operating procedures (SOP) as preventive measures.
"We also call on all parties who have new information related to this issue to furnish it to the MACC for further investigation under the MACC Act 2009," it said.
On May 7, a portal published a report that questioned how a contract could be awarded to an international company that was linked to a bribery scandal.
On Nov 8, 2021, the company said it was awarded a contract worth RM399 million from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Petronas.
It said the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning scope of work would include the delivery of the new Bintulu Additional Gas Sales Facilities 2 plant located onshore in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu, Sarawak.
