Ex-beauty queen suffers sexual harassment from hundreds of Bangladeshi men

JOHOR BARU: A woman who has been facing sexual harassment from more than 200 Bangladeshi men after a video about her was uploaded on social media apart from her name being smeared by an acquaintance recently.

The victim, Lee Guan Yoke, 41, who had won 10 beauty pageant competitions, said that she has suffered terrible emotional troubles following sexual harassment so much so that she even contemplated committing suicide.

She said that apart from messages and phone calls, the harassment and disturbances have also encroached onto other social media platforms that she uses.

"All I know is that I have been made into a sexual joke of sorts by an acquaintance whom I only met twice, after which I began receiving hundreds of messages and phone calls.

"All the messages and phone calls that I have received are from Bangladeshi men who utter vulgar, obscene words and sexual connotations. This has troubled me because it has smeared my good name and that of my family.

"Apart from that, it has also affected my career and my personal life," said the single mother of three schoolgoing children.

Guan Yoke, who has been working as a tour guide, said as such during a press conference that was held at the Johor MCA headquarters here earlier today (May 30).

She added that she started getting harassed since May 17.

"On that day, I found a 'live' Facebook video clip made by a man named Lee Fook Soon that seemed to be selling me to a group of Bangladeshi men.

"The words used were all very vulgar and obscene," she said.

Guan Yoke then lodged two police reports regarding the harassment that she has been subjected to, one at the Taman Universiti police station and the other at the Ulu Tiram police station, on May 18 and May 21 respectively.

Meanwhile Johor MCA Public Services Complaints Bureau committee member Joan Ng Geok Yin said that they will refer the case to the relevant agency to defend and safeguard the safety, well-being and sanity of the victim.

"We have already contacted the said man and he has admitted to making the live recordings, but he claims it is just a joke, a prank.

"However his actions have troubled, disrupted, disturbed and wrecked havoc for the victim who is also a a single mother.

"We are hoping that the relevant authorities can take action and defend the rights of the victim because up till now the man's video recording or clip can still be viewed and watched on social media," she said.

Seri Alam District Police chief, Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed that they have received a police report regarding the matter.
