PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded a statement from a former member of parliament alleged to be involved in a sexual harassment case against a restaurant owner.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar @ Ismail said police recorded statements from 13 individuals, including the 49-year-old former MP and the victim, to assist in the investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Sections 507A/509 of the Penal Code," he said today.
It was previously reported that police launched an investigation into the former MP who was alleged to be involved in a sexual harassment case of a woman at a supermarket in Kota Damansara.
Shahrulnizam had said that a report was received from the victim, a woman in her 20s, on Aug 6, claiming she was sexually harassed twice by the man while at the supermarket.
He also said police detected an 18-second video circulating on social media concerning the allegations.
According to Shahrulnizam, the suspect worked for a statutory body and held the position of a non-executive director.
