District police chief picked up by MACC; Pahang cops to provide full cooperation

KUANTAN: Pahang police today confirmed that one of its district police chiefs has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of graft.

Pahang police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman said state police would give full cooperation to the MACC in their investigations into the case.

"Yes, one of our officers has been arrested. We will give space for the investigation process to be conducted by MACC in accordance with the law.

"We will not compromise with any officer involved in cases of misconduct or any form of criminal offences. Pahang police are prepared to provide our full cooperation to the MACC in carrying out their investigations," he said in a statement.

It was earlier reported that the 53-year-old district police chief was detained this evening on suspicion of receiving more than RM1 million in bribes between 2017 and 2022 to "protect" unlicensed entertainment outlets and massage parlours in the district.

An MACC source said the bribes were to ensure these unlicensed entertainment outlets and massage parlours do not face any action from enforcement officers.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for receiving bribes.

Pahang MACC director Hairuzam Amin had earlier confirmed the arrest.

Meanwhile, MACC is expected to obtain a remand order against the senior policeman at the Kuantan court complex here tomorrow.
