Court of Appeal returns Rosmah's passport temporarily to visit daughter in Singapore

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal this morning has allowed Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's application to temporarily retrieve her passport to visit her daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib and her family in Singapore.

The application, which was filed by way of motion on June 2, was allowed by a three-member bench chaired by Justice Datuk Ravinthran N. Paramaguru, Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Datuk Azman Abdullah this morning.

The Justices delivered their decision after confirming no objection from the prosecution, Deputy Public Prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn regarding the application.

The judges also confirmed with Rosmah's counsel Datuk Jagjit Sigh that Rosmah will return to the country on or by July 7, in time for her appeal to be heard in the Court of Appeal on July 11.

Rosmah, 71, was charged with soliciting RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin, through her then-aide Datuk Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help the company secure the project.

She was also accused of two counts of receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million from Saidi between 2016 and 2017.

Rosmah's case started on Feb 5, 2020 and High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan ordered her to enter her defence against all charges on Feb 18, 2021.

Zaini found Rosmah guilty of all three charges on Sept 1, last year. Rosmah later filed an appeal against the conviction through Messrs Akberdin & Co on Sept 2.

The Court of Appeal, then, on January 6, fixed four days in July to hear Rosmah's appeal.

The justices, this morning, also allowed Jagjit's application to amend the date for Rosmah's passport to be temporarily returned to her. Previously, she had applied to retrieve the passport from June 6 to July 7. However, today, Jagjit requested to amend the dates from June 15 to July 7 instead.

Previously, the wife of jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had succeeded twice in retrieving her passport temporarily to visit Nooryana and her family in Singapore on October 15, 2021 and March 21 this year.

In her application, Rosmah promised to return the passport to the court immediately or at the latest a week after returning from Singapore.
